Business Context

HFI has a history stretching back 147 years – originally a manufacturer of fireworks, we are now totally focused on being the Centre of Excellence for Defence and Security Pyrotechnics. We are the new 5th member of Canada's Munitions Supply Program, and we have a growing range of products and services and customers from around the world. HFI is on the ascent, and we are looking for a Production Operator to help support the expansion of our business.

Purpose and Objectives
As a Production Operator, you will play a crucial role in our manufacturing of pyrotechnic products. As a Production Operator, your purpose will be to serve HFI’s long-term goal of being a leading world class supplier of specialty pyrotechnic devices. As a Production Operator, you will work on various assembly lines, as you are expected to flow to the work as necessary, learning different positions involved in manufacturing the pyrotechnic devices that HFI supplies to the military for training purposes.

Reporting
This role supports: RP Value stream; must be able to flow to other value streams as required
The role reports to: RP Products Line Shift Leader (LSL) RP Products Team Lead (TL)

Responsibilities/Expectations/Deliverables

  • Participate and contribute in daily morning meetings
  • Perform quality checks on the line
  • Meet and maintain daily targets
  • Follow HFI’s values
  • Follow detailed standards
  • Flow to the work as required
  • Recognize and report safety incidents/concerns
  • Build capability in self and others
  • Eliminate losses i.e. identifying defects in parts
  • Maintain 5S standards at work station

Key Process Indicators (KPI’s)/Measures

  • Maintain yearly Health & Safety Training as required
  • Maintain yearly Environmental & Sustainability training
  • Yearly mask fit tested, unless otherwise indicated

Role Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to receive and give constructive and positive feedback
  • High Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Must be able to be mask fit tested as some operations require a mask to be worn (PAPR, N95, Half Mask, Dragger) and wear PPE in all climate conditions
  • Must be able to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to work in different environmental conditions i.e. heat, cold, dust
  • May be required to shower before leaving HFI site due to chemicals
  • Must be able to work with chemicals

Compensation
Starting salary is $19.69 (Level 0) after probation 21.65 (Level 1) and around one year increase to $22.89 (Level 2). Benefits after 3 months. Pension after 6 months.
