Job purpose:
The ReStore Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, courteous, and efficient pick-up and delivery of donated goods, ensuring a positive donor experience and maintaining Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands’ high standards of customer service, safety, and professionalism. The position also supports in-store operations, including assisting in the receiving area and mentoring volunteers and assistants as required.
Job Requirements:
- Must submit a Level 2 – Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check prior to employment as per corporate policy.
- Must hold a valid G driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Must be able to lift and move heavy items (minimum 50 lbs).
- Steel-toed footwear required.
- Forklift certification is an asset (training may be provided).
- Familiarity with warehouse safety and material handling procedures preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Driving & Delivery Operations:
- Safely operate the HFHTI truck and other vehicles as required.
- Pick up and deliver donated items, ensuring they meet ReStore acceptance criteria.
- Load and unload all items safely using proper lifting techniques and equipment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain accurate vehicle logbooks.
- Report any mechanical issues, safety hazards, or incidents to the ReStore District Manager immediately.
- Ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled, and properly maintained at all times.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and HFHTI transportation procedures.
Donor Relations:
- Represent Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure all donors receive a positive experience.
- Communicate clearly with donors regarding acceptable donation criteria and ReStore policies.
- Issue donation receipts when required and document pick-ups accurately.
Warehouse & ReStore Support:
- When not driving, assist with receiving, sorting, and organizing incoming donations.
- Support the team in cleaning, testing, and preparing items for sale.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Assist customers on the sales floor as directed by management.
Leadership & Volunteer Support
- Provide direction and support to Truck Assistants, volunteers, and community service participants assigned to the truck.
- Foster a positive and safe work environment for all team members.
- Communicate effectively with ReStore management and staff to coordinate operations.
Other Duties:
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the ReStore Manager or management team.
- Participate in ReStore events, sales promotions, and community outreach activities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of professional driving experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
- Ability to represent Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands in the community with professionalism and respect.
Working conditions:
- The ReStore operates Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (shifts may vary).
- Work is primarily performed on the road and in warehouse environments.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift items weighing up to 50 lbs throughout the day.
- Regular physical activity required, including lifting, loading, and unloading large items such as furniture and appliances.
Direct Reports:
Truck Assistant(s) and volunteers assigned to truck operations.
