Job purpose:

The Procurement and Product Specialist is responsible for sourcing, acquiring, and managing inventory to maximize sales and profitability for Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands ReStores. This role combines strong procurement skills with hands-on retail operations, ensuring quality products are acquired, priced, merchandised, and sold while maintaining excellent customer and donor relations.

The Specialist works closely with the District Manager and Executive Director to support daily operations, including customer service, volunteer training, and maintaining high store standards. This position is key in fostering positive donor relationships, enhancing the customer experience, and ensuring the ReStores meet revenue and mission goals.

 

Job Requirements:

Must submit a Level 2 – Criminal Records and Judicial Matters check prior to employment as per our corporate policy.

Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required due to multi-site responsibilities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Procurement & Donor Relations:

Identify and secure quality product donations from businesses, contractors, and individuals.

Build and maintain relationships with donors and suppliers.

Negotiate for surplus, discounted, or overstock products.

Coordinate product pickups in collaboration with external logistics staff.

Promote Habitat’s mission and environmental benefits of reduce, reuse and recycling.

      

 Product Management

Oversee product intake, valuation, and pricing to maximize revenue potential.

Ensure Products meet quality standards before being placed on the sales floor.

Implement merchandising strategies that enhance the shopping experience.

Monitor sales trends to inform procurement decisions.

 

Customer Service & Store Operations

Provide exceptional service to customers and donors, ensuring a welcoming environment.

Maintain consistent store standards, cleanliness, and organization.

Support daily financial processes, including sales reconciliation.

Serve as a keyholder and assume delegated management responsibilities when required and instructed by the District Manager and Executive Director.

 

Volunteer Coordination

Assist with recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers when required.

Provide guidance to volunteers on pricing, merchandising, and customer service.

Foster a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers and staff.

 

Qualifications:

Previous retail or procurement experience.

Strong customer service and communication skills; friendly and outgoing.

Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.

Strong organizational and mathematical skills for pricing and cash handling.

Understanding of volunteer management and engagement.

Knowledge of renovation, building materials, and home improvement products is an asset.

Valid Class G driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.

Working conditions:

Requires travel between ReStore locations in Brockville and Kemptville, with occasional evening and weekend events.

Steel-toed boots certified with the CSA green triangle required.

Achievement of monthly donation and procurement targets.

Increased volume and quality of high-value product categories.

Consistently positive customer and donor feedback.

Well-trained and engaged volunteer team.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.

Annually during the performance review process.
