Tackaberry Construction is a local, family run business, serving eastern Ontario since 1957, with three locations, over 50 pits and quarries and an asphalt plant in Eastern Ontario.
Our team has an immediate opening for a full-time Asphalt Foreperson based at our Athens Location and serving Eastern Ontario (Leeds & Grenville, Lanark, Frontenac County).

THE ROLE
The Asphalt Foreperson is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the asphalt paving crew. The Foreman will engage daily with the Asphalt Supervisor, Fleet Manager & Quality Control Department to coordinate equipment and mix requirements for daily operations.
The Foreperson is responsible to ensure company processes are current and updated to optimize our crew performance, along with providing quality results while maintaining staff safety.
You are required to have a valid Class G driver’s license, and a clean driver’s abstract.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum 3 years experience being a Foreperson of a paving/grade crew
- Minimum of 3 years experience as Lead Hand or Tail Ender
- Ability to promote mentoring and cross-training
- Good knowledge of Book 7 Traffic Control Manual
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- A strong safety ethic
- Valid Class G licence
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage day-to-day paving operations
- Mentor the Paving Crew
- Ensure Health & Safety Compliance by the Paving Crew
- Coordinate paving equipment and truck fleet requirements to maximize truck efficiency and traffic control setups as per Book 7
- Report daily productions, mix types and crew hours to track project performance
- Communicate scheduling with the Asphalt Plant, Scales and the QC Department
- Inspect the various paving equipment for regular maintenance and repairs
- Direct subcontractor trades (i.e., Tack Coat, Milling) as to on-site requirements
- Demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills with all parties
- Motivate, encourage & train crew members to perform various positions within the crew
WORK CONDITIONS
- Work primarily in an outdoor environment in any type of weather
- Work in traffic, public venues, and around pedestrians
- Drive from site to site, or site to office
- May be required to work long hours (6:00 am to 7:00 pm)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit for intervals, with the ability to get up and move around (office work, driving)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to walk for moderate periods, including on uneven terrain
- Ability to climb
- Ability to bend, reach, squat and/or crouch, kneel
Hourly wage range: $32-38/hour
Hours of Work: 45-60 hours/week
