GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position is accountable for all aspects of shipping and receiving and Health and Safety within the department.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that all staff have been trained and are knowledgeable of procedures and competent in picking, loading shipping, and processing orders in SAP.
  • Knowledgeable in all transactions in SAP relating to shipping, receiving and order execution.
  • Responsible for tracking of picking, fill rates and other KPI’s relating to shipping.
  • Staff development, providing direction, guidance and monitoring.
  • Monitor compliance to procedures and review non-conformance issues with Shipping Staff.
  • Ensure that all shippers are aware of possible hazards in the workplace, and ensure proper procedures are followed while work is being carried out.
  • Train shippers in safe practices and job safety requirements associated with particular job processes, i.e. providing introductory training to new employees and reinforcement of regular training to existing shippers and transferred workers.
  • Schedule shipping staff as required to meet shipping requirements. Ensure payroll is completed for the department and approve hours.
  • Responsible for scheduling all in coming and outgoing loads.

Health and Safety Shipping:

  • Ensure all shipping staff are up to date on forklift and dock training.
  • Ensure all dock equipment including forklifts and dock levelers and restraints are up to date with annual inspections.
  • Ensure Shipping staff are trained on proper dock procedures relating to safety and lock out for trailers.
  • Enforce rules, procedures, safe work and hygiene practices and Health and Safety standards.
  • Correct unsafe acts.
  • Advise worker of the existence of any known, immediate or potential danger to the worker’s health and safety act.
  • Report and investigate all accidents/incidents and near misses resulting in personal injury and or property damage in the shipping area.
  • Implement emergency plan when necessary and ensure that workers have been properly trained.
  • Inform Senior Management of any known occupational health and safety concerns.
  • Document and report all accidents to meet WSIB requirements and time constraints.
  • Co-ordinate modified work programs where required for dock employees.

Quality Assurance Program:

  • Ensure shipping and dock procedures are followed and documents are complete and signed off.
  • Maintain integrity of the Pest Control Program in the shipping area.
  • Work closely with Shippers and Production Supervisor to ensure FIFO is maintained in the coolers and warehouse.
  • Monitor reports and address any inconsistency.
  • Audit system is in place to record codes an ensure proper codes are being shipped.

HACCP Program for the Plant:

  • Member of the HACCP team responsible for information on the dock and warehouse areas.
  • Attend the HACCP Team meetings and ensure corrective actions in shipping are corrected.
  • Provide guidance and support to shipping staff for understanding of HACCP program.
  • Provide training on HACCP to shipping employees.
  • Participate in external audits to ensure plant ratings are maintained.

Sanitation Program:

  • Responsible for the Sanitation and cleaning of the dock, warehouse areas.
  • Work closely with Lead Hand to ensure the dock and warehouse areas are clean and well maintained.
  • Ensure documentation is maintained for the program.
  • Prepare for CFIA, BRC and other audits to ensure that plant rating remains at “A” or better, prepare documentation, conduct pre-audit inspections and report any outstanding issues to management.
  • Perform other related duties that may from time to time be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven working experience as a Shipping Supervisor
  • Proficiency in warehouse software – RF Scanner Gun
  • Familiarity with progressive warehousing practices and methods
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Certified Forklift Experience (Narrow Aisle Reach, Ride-on power jack)
  • Occasional weekends and stat holiday work may be required
  • Ability to work in a cold environment
