Invites applications for the position of:  Labour Relations and Policy Manager

Status:  Temporary Full Time – 1 yr. (possible extension)

Start Date: July/Aug 2021

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the St. John Bosco Children’s Centre Board of Directors (SJBCC BD), and in collaboration with senior management (Executive Director and Director), the Labour Relations and Policy Manager will be responsible for the oversight of SJBCC staff and adherence to mandated Board policies and childcare regulations.  They will be responsible for the management and administration of matters in labour relations and oversee training plans and records for all staff.   The Manager will ensure compliance to all applicable childcare regulations and policies and develop new programs and policies in collaboration with the SJBCC BD and senior management as required to support the provision of quality daycare programs and services.

Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years experience as a program teacher in daycare environment, equivalent experience, or combination thereof
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a working vehicle
  • Familiarity with all programs offered
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Early Learning Framework (ELF)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of How Learning Happens programming
  • Strong ability to influence and lead others

  • Strong knowledge of child development (1-6 years)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the training and development of all staff
  • Oversee the Training and Development Coordinator and work to create training plans for staff
  • Oversee training checklists
  • Oversee training records for all staff
  • Communicate the expectations of conduct in the workplace to new staff
  • Contribute to cultivating a culture of encouragement, positivity, and respect
  • Unite all SJBCC sites in terms of policy application
  • Mentor staff with programing and working relationships
  • Identify gaps in staff knowledge and create a plan to address them in partnership with senior management and the T&D Coordinator
  • Set training plans for regular refresher training
  • Work with senior management and the Board of Directors to organize work policies and ensure policy retention on-site
  • Enforce policy consistently across multiple sites
  • Complete formal paperwork when policy is breached and advise senior management and SJBCC Board if Directors
  • Work with senior management and the T&D Coordinator to introduce new Board driven policies
  • Work with senior management and the Board of Directors to ensure innovation and improvement and make suggestions for the betterment of the SJBCC.
  • Provide a report to the Board of Directors monthly re: progress, training status/plans/needs
  • Attend the regular monthly board meetings of the SJBCC
  • Manage employee relations
  • Conduct staff exit interviews
  • Conflict resolution with all staff
  • Conduct investigations as needed in collaboration with senior management and the SJBCC Board of Directors
  • Work with staff to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures and safety requirements that pertain to the SJBCC
  • Lead change and transition as directed by senior management and SJBCC Board of Directors
  • Engage and inspire staff
  • Provide input to year end employee evaluations in collaboration with Executive Director or Director
  • Work with the SJBCC Board of Directors to create forms to report policy incongruity and work with senior management to create a plan to assist employees with positive improvement and growth
  • Manage all employee email addresses and passwords

Health & Safety

  • Develop and maintain safe environment
  • Promote and facilitate healthy practices within the programs
  • Adhere to Health and Safety practices as outlined in the Policy and Procedures Manual

Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Community

  • Build and maintain relationships with families
  • Orient families to program
  • Communicate with parents
  • Access and engage with community resources
  • Collaborate with parents and other professionals to develop and implement inclusion practices

Demonstrates Professionalism

  • Understand and apply the policies and procedures outlined in the SJBCC Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Ensure all practices and interactions with staff and children adhere and follow the Code of Ethics (CECE)
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Engage in regular professional development
  • Participate in mandatory staff and team meetings
  • Participate in centre wide activities (Year End BBQ, etc.)
  • Participate in evaluations and implements recommendations of goals as outlined by Executive Director/ Director/SJBCC Board of Directors
  • Maintain daily log and attendance for staff
  • Keep informed of current trends and advances in ECE field
  • Follow licensing requirements
