Are you a warehouse professional, seeking a challenging and rewarding career to support Ontario’s fire service? If so, consider joining the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council’s Distribution Centre as an Operations Manager.

The Operations Manager will work alongside the Board of Directors and manage a complement of full-time employees dedicated to providing fire safety education material and other support to the fire service in Ontario. The successful candidate will be required to oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Distribution Centre activity, requiring strong leadership skills and project management experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership:

  • Identify, assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization
  • Participate in board meetings as required
  • Preparation of Annual report

Operational Planning and Management:

  • Oversee operational systems, processes and infrastructure while looking for opportunities of improvement or revision - Advocating quick resolution, helpful and empathetic customer service
  • Manage the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Council’s campaigns, programs and initiatives
  • New product development, pricing and procurement
  • Inventory control and warehouse management
  • Oversee the construction of a product catalogue
  • Administrate website and web store management and ensure compliance to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standard
  • Management of social media and email marketing strategies

Human Resources Planning and Management:

  • Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery
  • Employee performance management
  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
  • Maintain a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations and yearly equipment maintenance requirements

Financial Planning and Management:

  • Oversee and accountable for budgeting, reporting, planning and general auditing
  • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated Procurement policy
  • Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting practices and procedures are followed
  • Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget
  • Provide the Board of Directors with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditures of the Distribution Centre.

Community Relations/Advocacy:

  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with key stakeholders (sponsors, partners, customers and suppliers)
  • Ensure proper representation at Trade Shows and Conferences

Risk Management:

  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization’s people (sponsors, staff) finances, goodwill and implement measures to control risks

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in management and leadership principles as well as a financial background. Knowledge and familiarity with Sage 300 ERP and the fire service would be an asset. Must be competent in problem solving.

Starting Salary Range between $62,000 and $70,000, depending on experience
