The Township of Augusta is a thriving rural community that serves a population of 7,350 residents. It is strategically situated along the St Lawrence River at the intersection of Highway 401 and Highway 416 in the County of Leeds and Grenville.  

The Township is seeking a permanent full-time Intermediate/Senior Land Use Planner.

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent will provide Planning Services to address corporate strategic objectives and guide the growth and development of the Township of Augusta towards becoming a preferred place to live, work and visit through the development of strong policy framework for land use decision making and development review services. 

Responsibilities include:

The Intermediate/Senior Land Use Planner conducts the evaluation and analysis of a growing volume of Planning Act applications and development proposals with increasing complexity to ensure consistency with the Ontario Planning Act and other applicable laws. Our municipality is currently receiving a high number of planning and property inquiries, has set a 20+ year record for building permit applications in 2020 and anticipates additional growth in the near future.

The successful candidate will be a solution-oriented optimist that will work well alongside an Intermediate/Senior Economic Development Planner, and the Township’s Chief Building Official to manage land use and facilitate development proposals according to the vision of our Official Plan: ensuring a balanced, sustainable environment and communities which provide a sense of place respectful of Augusta’s unique historical, cultural and natural heritage where citizens can enjoy an unparalleled quality of life.

Effectively manage several files and projects at once, exercise critical thinking and make sound recommendations through clearly articulated written and oral presentations. In addition, the ability to interact effectively, courteously and professionally with the public, planning applicants, reviewing agencies, and other municipal staff is essential.

Compensation:  Salary will be commensurate with experience.  We offer a comprehensive benefit package and are an Ontario Municipal Retirement System (OMERS) employer.
