Position: Youth Services Coordinator

Job Status: The Youth Services Coordinator will provide services to youth specifically as well as their families in Leeds & Grenville and is part of the Anti-Human Trafficking Team for VSLG. While the job is primarily Monday to Friday daytime hours, the caseload sometimes requires the ability to be flexible with evening and on occasion weekend appointments.

Rate of Pay: Salaried position plus mileage allowance and Wellness Benefit: $50,194.33/year. Paid on 1st and 15th of the month.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Youth Services Coordinator will be responsible for delivering the S.T.A.R. Program (Supporting Teens at Risk) by providing community-based assistance to youth victims of crime, tragedy and disaster, typically within a high school setting. The Youth Services Coordinator works as part of the Anti-Human Trafficking Team: this position will take a case management approach that will include on-scene support and follow-up with youth and their families / supports; to provide supportive and / or practical assistance as required as well as assistance with referrals to appropriate community agencies. The successful applicant should have a solid understanding of intimate partner violence dynamics, specifically dating violence and sexual assault, as well as Human Trafficking.

Duties will also include public presentations, safety planning, developing youth specific resources and risk assessments as well as accessing long-term community supports and services. The caseload may include individuals and / or families with complex needs requiring a solid understanding of a wide range of community resources. The day-to-day workload may be crisis oriented and unpredictable at times. The Youth Services Coordinator must be comfortable providing services to all age ranges and gender identifications and posses a solid understanding of youth and trauma. This position requires an advanced ability to work within a multi-sector, multi-disciplinary team with different mandates and demands in a successful manner. Other duties include administrative duties, client file management, statistical recording, crisis intervention and liaison with emergency service providers.

This position will also be a lead member of the Anti-Human Trafficking Program and work collaboratively with peer support workers and counselors who also work with the Anti Human Trafficking program and clients. Duties will include supporting the team by problem solving/trouble shooting complex cases and ensuring appropriate clients are referred to Peer Support Workers in a timely fashion.

Education and Qualifications
• Diploma or Degree or Certification in Social Service Work, Social Work, Child &
Youth Work, Psychology, Victimology or other related human services-based
program.
• Extensive knowledge, training or experience in the areas of trauma and
victimization and youth is preferred.
• A solid background in understanding the dynamics of Domestic Violence and
Sexual Assault; Understanding of Human Trafficking dynamics an asset
• Extensive knowledge of community resources and agencies
• Demonstrated case management skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Proficiency in computer applications such as Word and Excel; Willing and able to
learn new programs/applications
• Experience working with Emergency Response Providers an asset
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
• A completed clean Vulnerable CPIC

Responsibilities
S.T.A.R. Program/Client Service:
• Responsible for working with youth at risk, typically within the High Schools in
Leeds & Grenville
• Responsible for STAR Program intakes and front-line response to youth victims
of crime, tragedy and disaster.
• Complete Needs Assessment and determine services and supports required,
both at time of intake and during follow up communications.
• Provide emotional support as well as supportive referrals to community agencies
• Provide practical, immediate crisis response as required
• Conduct and develop Safety Plans as required as well as Risk Assessments
• Work collaboratively with other Community Partners and Services to offer a wrap-around approach
• Develop and utilize a variety of youth specific resources

Anti Human Trafficking Program:
• Ensure appropriate referrals are sent to Peer Support Workers and picked up by Peer Support Workers within a timely manner
• Back-Up for Peer Support Workers when required
• Main point of contact for police, emergency services and community partners regarding potential human trafficking recruitment, grooming and / or activity
• Part of the team that evaluates applications and intakes for our Anti-Human Trafficking programs
• May be required to assist with presenting information to community groups or in high schools when required
