Part time, student ~33 hours every two weeks
Education: No post secondary education necessary
Experience: Communication, reading , writing and math skills. Knowledge/experience with the use of table saw, compound miter saw, planers/ jointer or similar equipment. Use of band saw sawmill and/or relative work history in the lumber business an asset, including chainsaw experience. SAWMILL, LUMBER YARD and/or HEAVY EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE AN ASSET.
Tasks: Saw, trim and plane rough lumber into dressed lumber of various sizes. Examine logs and rough lumber to determine size, condition, quality and other characteristics to decide best lumber cuts to carry out. Sawyer to operate sawmill and monitor logs and lumber movement to ensure cuts are made according to specifications Tailor to operate equipment to sort and stack lumber by length and thickness, move stacks to storage areas or drying kilns. Edger to feed lumber through planers and sort accordingly. Set up and adjust mill equipment and replace blades using wrenches, gauges and other hand tools. Move logs and lumber to and from saw. Clean and lubricate sawmill equipment. Operate tractor with forklift or log grapple. Manage waste and package by-products for sale. Other duties as assigned. Follow company safety protocols and complete training as assigned.

Work Setting: Sawmill Outdoors, all weather
Own Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, work gloves
Work Site Environment: Noisy, Dusty, Un-even ground
Transportation/Travel Information: Own transportation, Drivers License
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: repetitive tasks, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, manual dexterity and fine motor skills, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, standing for extended periods
Personal Suitability: Team player, coachable, independent worker, able to follow instructions and take direction
