Summer Day Camp Counsellor

YMCA of Eastern Ontario Brockville, Ontario

Employment Category: Term Contract

Hours: Must be available for shifts between 7:15am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, and on weekends

during June for staff training.

Compensation: $14.25 per hour

Placement Date: June 24th , 2021 to August 27th, 2021

Location: Kemptville

Nature & Scope:

The incumbent will be guiding children in their physical, social, mental, and emotional development

in accordance with the philosophy of the YMCA of Eastern Ontario.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing constant care and supervision of all campers, ensuring a safe and fun camp
  • program, including participation in daily swims
  • Contributing positively to a fun and valuable camp experience for all campers
  • Communicating and interacting with campers and parents to ensure a safe and fun
  • experience
  • Acting in a manner that is in accordance with the YMCA mission and vision
  • Attending all staff meetings
  • Maintaining a positive profile and building relationships within the community
  • Planning, leading and participating in all camp programming and special events
  • Following and enforcing all relevant Covid-19 protocols

Qualifications:

  • “Clear” Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) including Vulnerable Sector Check completed not more than 120 days prior to interview, preferably performed by the Kingston City Police.
  • Those under 18 years of age will be required to sign a statutory declaration confirming that
  • there is no criminal reason why they should not work with children.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience as a camp counsellor, or related experience working with
  • children
  • Experience in planning and delivering recreational, sport, and outdoor education programs
  • A high level of maturity
  • Strong sense of responsibility
  • Good interpersonal skills
