We have a part-time Residential Life Supervisor position available starting January 5th, 2020 here at Merrick Preparatory College in Merrickville, Ontario. 

This job requires evenings & weekends.  You will be responsible for supervising high school students in the evenings and weekends - ensuring they have a safe, fun, inclusive and engaging environment.  

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manages the day-to-day residential life and student affairs programs at Merrick Preparatory School, including dorm supervision; transportation; may be required to communicate with parents/agents; evening and weekend activities and duties; promotes, encourages and creates opportunities for community service; student discipline.

2. Ensures a physically and emotionally safe environment for students; addresses and resolves conflicts with students, including mediating and facilitating disputes and misunderstandings; and drawing up Behaviourial Contracts as required.

3. Contributes to the development and design, implementation and delivery of the Residential Life Curriculum, both the week-day and weekend programs.

4. Supervises students in a variety of environments both on and off-campus.

5. Evaluates and reports on students' behaviour.

6. Provides feedback to staff and possibly parents on students' social progress.

7. Participates in ongoing professional development and administrative meetings.

8. Plays a role on various committees and group discussions.

9. Maintains a neat and professional appearance.

10. Acts as a support to students on social, personal, career, and academic matters.

11. Participates in the co-curricular life of the school (recreational sports and activities, trips, etc.).

12. Responsible for leading co-curricular activities from 4:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. On Wednesday provides a voluntary activity for students during the 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. time slot and/or participates in All Staff Meeting; the Residential Life Supervisor is expected to be involved in leading and participating in activities during this time.

13. Lead and execute, with the Residential Life Supervisor, emergency and fire evacuation procedures.

14. Respond to emails within 24 hours and maintain copies for future reference.

15. Additional related duties may be assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

1. Superior client service; ability to work with teenagers and staff and promote healthy living.

2. Supports student involvement in curricular and/or co-curricular activities.

3. Adaptability and flexibility to meet the needs of our diverse clientele.

4. A willingness and interest in working with diverse populations.

5. Superior organizational, time management and detail-oriented skills to ensure a safe, organized, fun and productive learning program for our students.

EDUCATION:

1. University degree or college diploma, ideally in education, psychology, physical education, kinesiology, sport psychology or related field.

2. First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Defibrillation Certificate, (required).

3. Valid and clean driver’s license, (required).

4. Successful completion of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety online course (required).

5. Valid Royal Life Saving certification (preferred).

6. Ontario Teaching Certificate and English as a second language training (preferred).

EXPERIENCE:

1. Work with teenagers in a school, residential or camp setting is required.

SKILLS: Excellent communication and listening skills. Exemplary ability to exercise fair and ethical judgment. Sensitivity to other cultures. Superior skills in motivating and inspiring teenagers into action. Ability to manage a highly diverse group of students, not only culturally, but in personality as well. Sound judgment and decision-making skills with regards to managing and leading teenager’s on-site and particularly during off-site excursions – ability to execute control when required. Excellent interpersonal skills with teenagers.
