Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the By-law Enforcement Officer is responsible for the investigation, resolution by mutual acknowledgement, or laying of information for the enforcement of all municipal by-laws for which lack of compliance is enforceable, pursuant to the Provincial Offences Act, RSO 1990, Chapter P33 as amended.
Required Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in related field and minimum of 5 years of previous experience in law enforcement.
• MLEO Certification – or ability to obtain Level 1 accreditation.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of municipal law and provincial legislation.
• Record keeping skills.
• Valid Class G Drivers License.
• Use of personal vehicle required.
Position Description:
• Investigates and resolves by-law enforcement matters which are brought to his/her attention through complaints or through his/her own observation.
• Responds to general inquiries pertaining to Township by-laws.
• Liaises with the public, staff, council, agencies and the Township prosecutor.
• Lays information and testifies in Provincial Court under the direction of the municipal prosecutor.
• Maintains office files for matters in each specific instance of the enforcement of municipal by-laws.
• Prepares and submits monthly reports to the Chief Building Official.
• Submits recommendations for the improvement of municipal by-law enforcement.
• Required to work various hours, including weekends.
• Other duties as assigned
