 Position Description

Manager of Operations

The Manager of Operations reports to the Board of Directors (BOD) for the successful leadership and management of the Kemptville Youth Centre (KYC).

Areas of Responsibilities

PROGRAMMING

 Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Centre's Youth programs and services ensuring that they meet the KYC’s mission and vision

 Coordinate, plan, deliver and evaluate a range of community based programs for youth

 Develop, train and supervise Youth program staff and volunteers

 Ensure safety and wellbeing of youth participating in programs

 Develop and deliver program promotion materials and provide outreach

 Responsible for maintaining knowledge of issues and resources for local youth

 Collaborate with community partners in developing and maintaining social development, recreational, leadership and educational group activities for youth

 Provide support, information and referral to youth and their families

 Manage the program budgets and meet terms and conditions of program contracts and grants

 Develop and implement participant recruitment strategies

 Maintain database, statistics and program information, meet obligations of funding contracts, and meet reporting requirements

 Develop and maintain operational/work plan which incorporates goals and objectives of KYC’s strategic plan.

CORPORATE & YOUTH COUNCIL

 Participate with the BOD in developing, reviewing and updating the strategic plan.

 Communicate in a timely manner with the BOD on internal and external issues that affect the organization.

 Implement policies and procedures as directed by the BOD.

 Prepare a monthly Management report to be presented to the BOD

 Develop and maintain a Risk Management Strategy in relation to KYC’s people, property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks

STAFFING

 Hire, manage and evaluate staff

 Identify annual needs and recruit and manage volunteers accordingly

PROPERTY & FINANCE

 Ensure the facilities are maintained in good, safe working order at all times

 Ensure cleanliness of KYC location

 Ensure accounts payable and accounts receivable are kept current

 Manage payroll

FUNDRAISING & GRANTS

 In collaboration with the BOD, oversee a strategic approach to fundraising,

 Evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary

 Research Grant opportunities, prepare applications and fulfill reporting requirements

COMMUNITY SERVICE & PARTNERSHIP

 Act as a spokesperson for the organization to community at large and with other youth centers in accordance with KYC mission and Vision

 Establish and maintain formal and informal community partnerships to support community outreach and development

 Represent KYC at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile.

Qualifications:

 Post-secondary education in Business Administration - Recreation & Leisure or Social Services - Youth & Child Services or equivalent training.

 Minimum two years experience working youth programs or equivalent experience

 Minimum 2 years of experience coordinating program(s).

 Demonstrated ability in program development, implementation and evaluation.

 Demonstrated ability in team leadership and staff supervision.

 Proven ability to manage a budget of at least $100,000.

 Demonstrated knowledge of issues and resources for local youth.

 Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

 A valid First Aid and CPR level C.

 Must hold a valid police security clearance.

 Valid Ontario Driver’s License.

 Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary organizations and a solid track record in a leadership/management role.

 Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations.
