Job Summary:

The landscape construction crew leader will perform tasks including reading plans and job packages, site staging, directing and training staff on job site tasks, communicating and working with the project manager and the client. The crew leader will participate in all aspects of the landscaping duties.

Job Tasks:

• Train crew members to improve skill sets and efficiency
• Comply with Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations (see OHSA S. 27: Duties of Supervisor)
• Read plans, instructions or work specifications to determine work activities
• Load/unload and secure machines and material in trucks and trailers
• Control traffic passing near, in or around work zones
• Excavate, backfill, compact or level soil/gravel by hand or equipment
• Cut and install precast and natural stone
• Mix and pour concrete post bases
• Handle, install and water plant material

Qualifications and Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3 years or more landscape construction experience preferred
• Excavator, skid steer, backhoe loader operation experience
• Proficient at reading scaled plans
• Ability to drive a 5-ton or larger truck with trailer an asset.
• Some woodworking experience an asset.

Competencies:

• Physically demanding: Fast-paced environment which requires, walking, crouching, kneeling, raking, shovelling, wheelbarolling and lifting/handling heavy loads.  Must be able to work in cold and hot environments
• Communication – job requires clear communication skills for articulating information to the crew members and the general manager
• Organization – job requires excellent organizational skills in order to be able to complete projects within given deadlines
