INVISTA Canada's Maitland Specialty Intermediate manufacturing site located in Maitland, Ontario has an immediate opening for a Process Engineer specializing in Process Control. The incumbent will be part of an engineering team and will be primarily tasked with identifying and leading the implementation of new Process Control initiatives across the entire site, ensuring that newly developed systems are maintained and integrated into unit operations.  

This incumbent will also participate in other activities of Process Safety Management such as conducting Process Hazards Analysis and implementing changes to processes to improve plant operations. Maitland Site has mixture of control systems. Most work is anticipated to be with DCS, multi-variable control software and PCN systems but could include PLCs systems.

 The Role

  • Develop, implement, support and maintain advanced process control applications to reduce variation, maximize throughput where possible and improve profitability.
  • Apply fundamental process control knowledge to improve base operations.
  • Create and provide instruction for training of console operators and other groups on control subjects as required.
  • Support the management of change (MOC) process
  • Develop and utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor site process control systems for optimal operation
  • Understand best-in-class tools for process control improvements, institutionalize the use of these tools to improve KPIs
  • Perform root cause analysis of process control problems; identify and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Support Process Engineering needs in areas such as Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), Process Safety Management and plant design.
  • Identify and lead unit operation improvements

What you Bring

  • B.S. or higher in Chemical Engineering and 3+ years of experience in a chemical, petrochemical or refinery plant environment.
  • 1-3 years of experience in application of process control and/or advanced process control to chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Basic knowledge of facility/process design including engineering.
  • Experience communicating with various levels of an organization (engineers, supervisors, operators, mechanics, contractors, off-site vendors, etc.).
  • The ability to produce accurate, high quality work in a time-sensitive fast paced environment.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize and own multiple tasks while meeting and/or exceeding deadlines.
  • The ability to motivate, influence and drive good business decisions forward while working with a diverse workforce.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Must have a valid and current government issued driver's license.

What Will Put You Ahead?

  • 5+ years of experience in a chemical, petrochemical or refinery plant environment
  • 3+ years of experience in advanced process control applications
  • Experience with troubleshooting and resolving process control problems
  • Experience designing, implementing and tuning advanced control programs and/or strategies, including tuning digital PID controllers.
  • Proficiency reading and understanding P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, DCS schematics and other design documents
  • Demonstrated capability to manage process control system related projects
  • Knowledge of or experience with systems associated with Process Safety Management
